“Drunk Bartender” — Modern Classics!
The LikeBrands team developed the branding for alcoholic cocktails for the new brand “Drunk Bartender.” When starting this project, where we worked on naming, logo, and design development, we decided to explore the history of each cocktail proposed by the client.
The drink “Yorsh” has a rather ambiguous legend about its origin, a story that could only be possible in Russia. It dates back to the 19th century when, by the end of a feast, already inebriated traders would pour the remaining alcohol into one large container. The unconventional name “Yorsh” likely came from the fact that those who tried this impressive mix had their hair stand on end, resembling the fish of the same name.
The “Screwdriver” is among the official cocktails of the International Bartenders Association (IBA), category “Unforgettable.” The idea of mixing juice with vodka first came to American oil workers in Saudi Arabia in the mid-20th century. Since Islam mandates a sober lifestyle, alcohol consumption was strictly punished by local authorities. Resourceful Americans began diluting alcohol with a large amount of juice to avoid suspicion and mixed the ingredients with a screwdriver, which was always handy.
“Bloody Mary” is a modern classic and perhaps the most popular cocktail in the world. This drink, like any legend, has several origin stories. History knows one Bloody Mary who was intolerant of Protestants and ruthlessly burned them at the stake of the Inquisition — Mary Tudor I, the first crowned queen of England, whose death was celebrated in the country as a national holiday. Upon becoming queen, Mary began restoring ruined Catholic churches. She was intolerant of Protestants: about 300 people were executed during her reign. Mary Tudor I went down in history as Bloody Mary.
